Liberty Bell Tappers 1967 - 2007
In 1963, Congress issued Resolution #25 concerning the ringing of bells throughout the United States.
Concurrent Resolution Number 25
United States Senate & The House of Representatives
"Whereas the tolling of the Liberty Bell at Independence Hall, Philadelphia, Pa., at 2 O'clock in the afternoon of the 4th day of July, 1775 proclaimed the signing of the Declaration of Independence; and
Whereas it is fitting that the anniversary of this great event should be appropriately observed in each year at the same moment throughout the United States;
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, that the Congress hereby (1) declares that the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence should be observed each year by the ringing of bells throughout the United States at the hour of 2 o'clock, eastern daylight time, in the afternoon of the 4th day of July, or at such other time on that day as may be determined by local authority, and (2) call upon civic and other community leaders to take appropriate steps to encourage public participation is such observance."

The D.S.D.I has a program that was initiated by
Past President-General
Sandy Stromberg, called Sounds of Liberty. Our program is nationwide, with many of the ceremonies being held at state Capitals. In 1976 for the Bicentennial each state was given a replica of the Liberty Bell which was placed
at each state Capital. The Liberty Bell in Independence National Historical Park
and all of the bells across the country are tapped thirteen times to signify the
Thirteen Original Colonies.
It is indeed an honor for our Junior Members to have the opportunity to be a part of this National Ceremony. Each child tapping the Liberty Bell must be a Junior Member and be between 8 and 17yrs. old on the 4th of July. In 2008 we had 8 children tap the Bell.
The following is the list of the Bell Tappers, who as Junior Members of the
D.S.D.I., tapped the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia at Independence National Historical Park.
