Spring 2026
Savannah, Georgia
Some 23 years after our last meeting in Savannah, 68 members, spouses, and guests returned between March 8-11, 2026 to enjoy a glorious winter break in the southernmost colony of Georgia. Georgia was also the youngest colony, founded by James Oglethorpe just 43 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Laid out in a grid pattern encompassing 22 public squares, Savannah was tailor made for walking enjoyment.
Fall 2025
New Bern, North Carolina
New Bern was established in October 1710. It is the second oldest European-settled colonial town in North Carolina, after Bath. Friday evening, DSDI members gathered at St John’s Masonic Lodge No 3, for brief introductions and a tour. Saturday morning, members took an informative 1-1/2 hour trolley tour on the New Bern Historic Trolley that highlighted the history, architecture of the former royal capital of North Carolina, and a famous duel between political rivals. Saturday afternoon, members enjoyed a tour of Tryon Palace. Members gathered at The Chelsea Saturday evening for a program and
dinner.

Spring 2025
Washington, D.C.
Seventy-seven DSDI members and family gathered in Washington, D.C. the first weekend in April. Members spent Saturday morning at the National Archives and were photographed in front of the Declaration of Independence. Members also visited the Congressional Cemetery, established very early when the city had no other burial facilities. The final stop was the Library of Congress. The Gala Dinner at the Georgetown Marriott was a fitting end to a wonderful weekend.
Fall 2024
Providence, Rhode Island
Twenty-seven DSDI members and guests gathered in Providence, Rhode Island, October 18 and 19, for the fall meeting. Attendees arriving early attended a casual dinner at the host hotel restaurant and had the opportunity to visit the Breakers mansion. Friday evening, attendees celebrated at a welcome dinner where they tested their drawing skills during a Telestrations ice breaker, and won prizes sourced in Rhode Island such as wine, soap, taffy, books, and other fabulous items. Saturday morning after breakfast, the General Meeting was held, and then immediately after, attendees boarded the bus and toured historic sites such as William Ellery’s grave, the General Nathanael Greene Homestead, and Stephen Hopkin’s home and grave. Saturday night, attendees put on their best cocktail attire for the semi-formal dinner where they heard a fantastic speaker.

Spring 2024
Charleston, South Carolina
Sixty DSDI members and guests gathered in Charleston, South Carolina, April 19 and 20, for the spring meeting. Attendees arriving early attended a plaque dedication honoring Signer Arthur Middleton and enjoyed a free pass for the day at Middleton Place. Friday evening, attendees celebrated at a formal welcome dinner at an exclusive location where they had a chance to get to know each other during the ice breaker bingo game and later enjoyed a surf and turf dinner of salmon and steak. Saturday morning, the group explored the Heyward-Washington House and enjoyed a box lunch and annual meeting at St. Michael’s Church. Tour Guide Tommy Dew led the group on a walking tour of historic Charleston that ended at St. Philip’s Church. Saturday evening, everyone enjoyed a taste of the low country dinner at our host hotel while listening to guest speaker former Charleston Mayor and DSDI member John Tecklenburg.
Fall 2023
Lancaster, Pennsylvania
About 40 DSDI members and guests gathered in Lancaster, Penn., October 13 and 14, for the fall meeting. It was a fun-filled weekend of fellowship and history! Attendees enjoyed a welcome banquet at the host hotel Friday night and boarded the bus on Saturday morning to explore the colonial complex in York. After visiting the complex, which included the replica courthouse where the Articles of Confederation were signed, the group enjoyed a lunch meeting at Roosevelt Tavern. After lunch, the group trekked to the gravesites of James and Eleanor Smith and Philip Livingston for brief commemoration ceremonies. Saturday night concluded the festivities with a formal banquet, the society’s traditional roll call, and guest speaker.

Fifty DSDI members, spouses and guests enjoyed a wonderful weekend April 21-22 in Edenton, N.C., a place full of colonial and revolutionary history.
