Annual Congress July 3-4, 2013

The Annual Congress of the Society will be held in Philadelphia July 3 and 4, 2013.

A board meeting will take place July 3, followed by a dinner for DSDI members at the Omni Hotel. The Philadelphia Pops orchestra is scheduled to perform a free concert at Independence Park, one block from the Omni, in the evening.

On the 4th, we’ll have breakfast at the Omni to honor our Bell Tappers. At 12:45 p.m., DSDI members may gather at the main entrance of the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel if they want to join the Pennsylvania Society Sons of the Revolution Color Guard as they parade to Independence Park.  They will have a ceremony before the 2 p.m. ringing of the Liberty Bell.

At 2, eight Junior Members of the D.S.D.I. will symbolically tap the Liberty Bell at the Liberty Bell Pavilion, Independence Park. DSDI members and family and friends may join the public in the Pavilion.

At 4:30 p.m., DSDI members will meet at the corner of 5th and Chestnut Sts., at the Old City Hall, to pass through the security check in order to be admitted to our meeting in Independence Hall. Please make sure to include the name of each person on the registration form who will be coming to the meeting, or they may not be admitted. Note that the Long Room is not accessible to the handicapped. The General Meeting takes place at 5.

Afterward, we’ll have cocktails and dinner at the Omni. Our dinner guest and speaker is  Fiona Hyslop, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs.  She is a Member of the Scottish Parliament. Cynthia MacLeod, Superintendent of Independence National Park, and her husband Doug will attend our dinner.


Omni Hotel, 4th & Chestnut Sts. – 215-925-0000, DSDI group rate of $199 per night, plus taxes and parking. CUT OFF DATE JUNE 12, 2013. 

Sheraton Society Hill, One Dock Street – 215-238-6000. We do not have a block of rooms there but the hotel is convenient to our events.
