When applying for a DSDI scholarship, it’s important to meet deadlines. Otherwise, your application will be disqualified. Should you have questions, refer to the following places or contact us:
October 31 | Deadline for admission to the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. This process includes acceptance of your application at a DSDI Board meeting, which occurs either in person or remotely three times a year (typically April, July, and October). |
December 1 | Application for the following Academic year will be opened for students to apply. |
2025 | |
March 21 | Application deadline. The program will not accept any application materials after midnight on the specified date. The date will be found on the application. |
April 1 | Reviewers receive their assignments and begin scoring the applications. No reviewer is assigned a student whom they know personally or who is a family member, including first cousins. Each application is reviewed by a minimum of three committee members. |
May 31 | Deadline for the reviewers to finalize all application scores. The Chairperson begins the process of determining awards to be given. |
July 1 | Deadline for all dues to be paid to DSDI. Lifetime members are paid in full. |
July 4 | Winners are announced at the General Assembly meeting at Independence Hall in Philadelphia PA. Within three days, students are sent an email letting them know whether they have received a Scholarship, an Honorable Mention, or no award. Recipient names are posted on the www.dsdi1776.com website. |
Mid-July | Scholarship and Honorable Mention recipients must accept their award via e-mail, provide the physical address of their school where funds will be sent and provide their student ID number. This information is critical and must be accurate. |
Late-July | Students must provide proof of enrollment in the form of a letter from their Registrar or a copy of their Student bill which shows clearly their name and the name of the educational institution. |
Early-August | The amount of the award is determined once all students have replied to accept their awards. Students are notified of the amount of their award via e-mail. The list of recipients is sent to the DSDI Treasurer and to the Administrators of the Charles Mitchell Scholarship Trust for payment. |
Mid-August | Checks are sent via regular mail to the respective schools. Students are typically notified via e-mail when the check(s) are mailed. |
September | Have a great year! |
