The Benefits of Becoming a Member of the DSDI

You have found out that you are a direct descendant of one of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. And maybe you’re considering joining The Society of the DSDI. Understanding more about the benefits of membership might help you decide!

The Primary Benefit:  Furthering the Society’s Objectives

One of the foremost benefits of being a member of the DSDI is having the opportunity to further the Society’s objectives:

To strengthen in American life the principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence, and to perpetuate the memory of those men who in signing the Declaration mutually pledged to each other their Lives, their Fortunes, and their Sacred Honor in the cause of Liberty.

And we accomplish that with a variety of programs and activities—all of which are beneficial to our members and the Society:

  • Annual Meeting on July 4th in Independence Hall in Philadelphia
  • Tapping of the Liberty Bell at 2 p.m. on July 4th in Philadelphia by Junior Members
  • Communications and Meetings with Members, Families, Friends, and the General Public
  • Scholarship Program for Descendants Who are Pursuing Higher Education
  • “Sounds of Liberty” Bell-Ringing Programs at 2 p.m. on July 4th in Locations Across the County
  • Gravesite Plaque Installation and Dedication Marking the Signers’ Graves
  • Signers’ Biography Writing and Updating
  • Contributions to the Restoration and Preservation of Historic Monuments
  • Grants for the Underwriting of Historic Publications
