DSDI Offers Reprint of John Hart Biography

It has been nearly 50 years since the original printing of John Hart: The Biography of a Signer of the Declaration of Independence by Cleon Hammond. First published in 1977 for the Bicentennial of the United States, this biography is widely regarded as the most reliable and comprehensive source of information on John Hart. Today, original copies are extremely difficult to find, and when one does surface, the cost can be prohibitively high.

Recognizing the importance of preserving and sharing this essential work, DSDI member and John Hart descendant Gregory Munro secured the copyrights to the biography from the author’s son, Lee Hammond. With the support of the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence (DSDI), this reprint has been produced from transcripts of the original book. The John Hart Memorial Committee was formed after receiving funds from Lynda Dresser’s Trust for the purpose of honoring Signer John Hart. Dresser was a direct-line descendant of John Hart and a member of DSDI.

This volume is a 6″ × 9″ hardcover edition, consisting of 357 pages, bound in cloth flare vellum with gold metallic foil stamping.

Some 100 copies are offered for sale.
