Fall Meeting Preview: Foodies Love Providence
You might be surprised to learn that Providence, Rhode Island (the site of our Fall Meeting), is known as a fantastic place for foodies! Providence is known for many dishes, some of which are mentioned below:
- Hot wieners: Greek immigrants brought hot wieners to Rhode Island in the early 20th century, and they’re now a staple of the state’s cuisine. A “true Rhode Island wiener” is served “all the way” with mustard, meat sauce, diced onions, and celery salt. Each hot wiener place has its own unique meat sauce recipe.
- Coffee and donut shops: Providence has the most coffee and donut shops per capita in the country.
- Pastiche’s tarts: Pastiche is a local dessert legend known for its tasty tarts. In the warmer months, they offer a custard fruit tart topped with seasonal fruit like blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, mango, and kiwi. In the winter, they offer a cranberry raspberry tart.
