Wanted – Authors and Family Stories about Signers
The Signers of the Declaration of Independence pledged “our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor” to found the country we are privileged to inherit. Although it is their signatures on the Declaration, their wives and children also sacrificed in untold ways.
We want to uncover the stories of the wives of our noble Signers. This project requires detective work and WE NEED YOU to volunteer to write a biography and/or share stories that have passed down through your family. We can provide the clues, guidance and assistance as you desire. The recent work of our DSDI Scholarship recipients will also be included in several biographies.
Your first clue is to get to know these ladies by reading the sketches on the website below. This work, in part, is a reflection of the material published by Harry Clinton Green and Mary Wolcott Green in 1912 in Wives of the Signers: The Women behind the Declaration of Independence.
For more information, please contact Shirley Smith at [email protected]. We have several volunteer biographers and family stories, but we still need YOU.
